Abstract

In them we see what John Paul II called the 'lived theology of the saints.'43 In the words of Hans Urs von Balthasar, the lives of the saints are 'theology in practice.'44 In them, the intuitions of faith are writ large and bright, as experienced, known and lived. [...] the saints afford not only a valuable function in teaching the mysteries of Christian faith; they also open a broad avenue into Church history as well as much-needed solid bridges connecting theology and spirituality.
