Abstract

The article explores phenomenological readings of poetry in light of the poem "Moonrise June 19, 1876," by Gerard Manley Hopkins. It examines Hopkins's attempt of phenomenalizing sacral desire in the poem, and looks at several phenomenological aspects of poetry, including contingency, conversion, and convergence. Additional topics include the human spirit, experience, and theology in poetry.
